Vintage Laces and Vintage Style Laces

I have been looking through my fabrics and trims and laces to
see what different things I have to work with for the bulletin board for church.
These are some laces I purchased at an antique store in my area, Washington State, that has many booths.
One particular booth is full of fabrics and notions and looks like a lovely old fabric store.
I think these will be beautiful on the bulletin board in addition to what I have!

The really wonderful item also in this picture is a vintage french roller stamp
used to mark fabric for embroidery. I purchased it from Liz's Etsy shop, La Croix Rosion.
She also has a gorgeous blog, Lululiz in Lalaland. It is she who got me blogging.  I have some more things to show you that I bought from her. I love the items she finds a brocantes and boot fairs in France when she is there at their cottage
in the countryside of France.
They are always so unique and gorgeous...I wondered how they used to mark fabrics for embroidery! I am sure there are many ways, but I can use this myself!!!

Don't these stamp patterns look beautiful? I am excited to mark some fabric and see what I can do with embroidery! So many plans.....
I wonder if there
is a washable ink pad that I can purchase. . .
I'll have to look for that. The balls of yarn I also found at the "Old Fabric Store" and will use them on SOMETHING as a crotcheted edging.
My friend has some Mexican Embroidered towels she uses to keep her tortillas warm in. They have the same type of yarn used to make the edging on them. I have one of those towels that needs to be finished and I think I will try this yarn! The fancy ecru lace beneath is a sleeve off of a vintage dress, and it is so pretty. And I have TWO sleeves, one for each side of the bulletin board!

I love this lace collar...it will be pretty as a topper to one side of the bulletin board. I think I will look for something similar for the other
side of the bulletin board. This ceramic piece is supposed to be a garbage can, but I cannot stand to use it that way, it is just too pretty! I've tried and I just can't! So it has some pretty double Narcissus bulbs in it. It is a piece of a bathroom set that blends in with  my dishes, American Ateleir Athena. This is the American Atelier Baroque Bathroom set my children gave me for Mother's Day one year. The story about the dishes is a doozy.... well, that LONG story IS for another post...

These are some larger pieces of lace that will cover more areas on either side of
the bulletin board,
I love the details and the open weave
on each of these pieces.

I adore this fillet crochet piece that my Mom~I~L made for me, years ago. One Winter when she and my hubby's father were going to Arizona, she asked if there was anything she could make for me....I will have to show you all she made for me that winter in the way of crochet and hardanger embroidery. I gave her patterns to CHOOSE from. She did them all!!! She does even and gorgeous work and I simply love each thing she has made me. She is a very talented woman, like my own Mother. And she treats her Daughter's in Law like her own daughters. I have kept it on the back of this chair for a few months. I had plans to put it on the back of a chair but that plan for a chair to sit in to cross stitch, in my sewing room,  never materialized. I'd rather be where family is and stitch. So, it has traveled to my bedroom and guest room, I have been nervous about it being unprotected on the back of a chair. I have considered framing it and I may still do that. The fabric behind it now is a section of curtains that Mom made for her homestead on the farm, and that seems an appropriate backing for it in a frame, don't you think?

I love the crocheted image of a woman knitting with that lovely frame
around the image. I am SURE I would mess a pattern like this up.
And at the time I did not knit very well, but thanks to my Mom~I~L's help,
I knit better now.
This lovely cream wing back chair, with "peachypink" flowers with sage green leaves,
 I inherited, from Daughter*2's Mother~in~law's Mother. I have been
thrilled that our Daughter*2 married into a family I have
known and loved for most of my lifetime, and that is another post for another day!
I post about so many things in one post, but that is because
I am sentimental about EVERYTHING!!!!!
I thought I'd better tell you that....
(like you didn't already notice it!! **rolling eyes at self**)

    1. Wilma,
Thanks for coming by, and for your compliments on my photos...I still have things to learn, as you can see. And so many things to share and not enough time to do it! Daughters 1 and 2 and their families will be in your "neck of the woods" next week for the Tulip Festival...I am soooo envious!
Heart hugs to you sweet friend,
      Betsy

  2. Lace is just meant to be admired isn't it? That stamp at the top of the first photo reminds me of an Independence Day swag/banner. Love the chair - it beckons one to pause for a moment.

  3. I am sure your bulletin board will look stunning with your pretty trims.
You are brave to use vintage lace, is the board permanent?
I have never seen a roller stamp for lace before, you are very lucky to own it, it looks so handy.
You could use it for many different projects, it is great to snap up vintage items that the modern world doesn't make anymore.
I love your post and pretty pictures.
    Hugs,
    Angela.

    1. Angela,
I don't think the board will be permenant. I plan to sew it together in panels with a warm and nautral batting behind it. And, since I am donating the items,
I will put a sign behind that asking that when they are not longer want to use it, it is returned to me. I am using a combination of new and old. Some of the "vintage" may be more retro. The doilies I bought in Germany may be from the 70s, I don't really know, but I am using things that I purchased, knowing they would be used for craft type things. Do you think it will not work well? I need any info I can get! Thanks for coming by!

  4. Betsy, these are wonderful treasures from your mother-in-law. I, too, had a wonderful mother-in-law, who treated me as if I were her own daughter. I was heart-broken when both she and my father-in-law both passed away at an early age. What a shame all in-laws do not treat the people their children marry in such a loving way. I never had any sons, but I can tell you that I love the men my daughters married as if I gave birth to them. They are decent men and have been good to me and my husband. Perhaps, there are circumstances when it is hard to love a child's spouse(for instance cases of abuse). But if a mother is not loving simply because of jealousy of a son's love for his wife, which is sometimes the case, everybody loses out on a lot of love that could have been shared. Thanks for sharing this lovely post about these wonderfully romantic pieces of work!

  5. Lynn,
I am very grateful for my Mother and Mom~I~L. They both are wonderful women. My Mother passed away four years ago, in about 3 days. I miss her very much...and my hubby knew she loved him. We both feel very blessed. I also love our Sons~I~Law. They are just right for each of our Daughters and are very good, fun, talented men. And they put up with my silliness and perfectionism pretty darn well. I try to not be demanding, and make things work as well as they can. I do hope our son marries a girl with no mother....then she will like me! LOLOL
    Thanks for coming by!

I have loved getting to know Liz, she is so fun and kind and got me to blog....And she puts up with me! LOL I was in Germany last summer and
even purchased some things from her that she shipped to me there! I should post pictures of my daughter wearing the Coton french night jacket for her photo shoot in the park in Gross Gerau. It was so fun to have for the photos!
The bulletin board will not be as detailed as your creative things are, I think I will like it done more simply than I usually do things! Yes, I am silly!
      Hugs to your heart!

  9. Oh Betsy your lace is simply beautiful ! Thankyou for sharing so we can all enjoy it too.
I really want to thankyou for your comments, they make me smile and I enjoy listening to your ideas too. Corsages aren't one of my favourite things to do but I do make them. I prefer a bucket of flowers and a great big urn and then let me go and create !
In a few months I will be fully qualified and then there is a design course that I am interested in as an extra. I am really looking forward to that course. Do you make flowers for fun or are you a florist ? Do you have your own store ?
I have 6 button holes to go and I have finished all of my wedding. I best get back to it now or I'll be up until midnight. x
